Weekend in Parma on a Motorbike – What You Need to Know Before You Go
Our suggested itinerary focuses on the north-western part of Parma province, heading towards Piacenza, known for its stunning hilly landscapes.
For your stay:
- Book a room for two nights at Hotel Villa Fiorita in Salsomaggiore Terme ➡️ Call the reception or email to book and mention that Cantina Il Poggio recommended their establishment 😉
- Bring a notebook to write down thoughts during the Cultural Wine Tasting at Cantina Il Poggio ➡️ Don’t forget to book the tasting on our website.
- Reserve a table at Stella di Mare for Saturday night ➡️ Dress smart-casual
Finally, the long-awaited weekend is here!
Have you packed your bags? 🧳 Made all your reservations?
Let’s hit the road! 🏍️
🥂 Friday Evening
After work, hop in the motobyke and head to Salsomaggiore Terme, using Google Maps to find Hotel Villa Fiorita. Enjoy the parking available for guests (ask about any additional costs when you call).
Check in, take a moment to admire the hotel, and chat with the friendly staff, especially Martina, who is a gem.
If it’s not too late, take a stroll around Fidenza for a pre-dinner drink. I recommend Cantina del Bugiardo, an excellent wine bar overlooking the main square in Fidenza.
For dinner, drive to Stella di Mare (you did reserve a table, right?). Enjoy a sensational seafood menu that follows the seasons, with dishes so refined they deserve a Michelin star.
🍇 Saturday
Wake up early and get ready for an immersive experience in the surrounding nature, then head to Cantina Il Poggio on your bike. Bring your notebook for the cultural wine tasting and an open mind to discover a unique gem of Emilia. From Salsomaggiore Terme centre, it’s a 10-minute drive to Cantina Il Poggio.
Our goal is to give a full immersion into our wine-world, amaze you with the landscape and take care of your taste with wines paired with very special goods, directly from our Food Valley!
The whole experience lasts around 2 hours and is organized in three different phases:
VINEYARD – A first overlook on the vineyards narrated directly by the persons who work and take care of it.
WINERY – The next step is to disclose the secrets of winemaking between traditional and pioneering techniques.
TASTING – The final moment is the wine tasting, where wine meets the best products from the Food Valley: Prosciutto Crudo (Parma ham), Culatello, Parmigiano and our own production extra-virgin olive oil.
After the wine tasting, get back on your bike and visit a couple of castles in the hills around Salsomaggiore, towards Piacenza. I recommend the Castle of Gropparello and the Castle of Castell’Arquato.
Make sure to check out our article “The Best Castles of Piacenza” for more details.
For dinner, I suggest “Del Voltone, Ristorante ed Enoteca” in Castell’Arquato. Enjoy traditional, seasonal dishes in a charming setting, with extremely attentive staff.
🥐 Sunday
Before you go home, stop by Pasticceria Archimede in Fidenza for an outstanding breakfast. Even if breakfast is included at Hotel Villa Fiorita, trust me on this one. Their cannoli are fantastic!
After breakfast, take a stroll around Fidenza’s center and stock up on local and traditional delicacies from Latteria ’55, a historic shop full of Parmigian specialties.
For your final stop, make your wife (and yourself) happy with a pit stop to Fidenza Village, one of Italy’s most exclusive fashion outlets. Located right off the highway, it offers a wide selection of boutiques from international brands like Prada, Valentino, Zegna, and more.
I hope this motorbike weekend in Parma, exploring the hills of Salsomaggiore, has given you a taste of what our region, Emilia Romagna, has to offer, from food and wine to stunning scenery. June is an ideal time to visit, but autumn, from September to November, is also very beautiful.
Cantina Il Poggio is open year-round (except during Christmas) from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You have to book a wine tasting (reservation required) or stop by our wine shop for a quick sample and purchase.
